Activating Our Minds #9

Anna Callaghan-Leonard & Jessica Hutchinson - 2 mins

These are three of the many stories from across the world that have activated our minds and informed our work this week.

Wise Words

This years Comic Relief ad steps away from its usual light-hearted, heart string pulling approach and instead, imparts us with words of wisdom. In a time of political unrest and division, Peter Mullan’s Glaswegian narration strikes a hard hitting tone that unites us in our commonalities.

The Wonderful Everyday

With roughly 60% of their product range being based on renewable materials, Ikea’s commitment to sustainability puts them firmly ahead of their less environmentally minded competitors. To celebrate their latest Greenwich store opening (which is, coincidentally, their most sustainable yet in the UK) Ikea have teamed up with Mother London to create upcycled wildhomes for the area’s birds, bees and bats.

The Power of a Hashtag

From jumping out of moving cars to eating a spoonful of cinnamon powder, social media is no stranger to a viral challenge. While most challenges are just for fun, the latest #trashtag craze is having a positive impact on our public spaces. The challenge encourages those nominated to find a place filled with litter, clean it up, and post the before and after pictures - what a great way to get people hands-on!
