For the last Friday in November, when a lot of people are out shopping for things they don’t necessarily need, we have focused on giving back. Here are three of the stories from across the world that activated our minds and informed our work this week.
The World's Big Sleep Out
Did you know that there are currently over 100 million homeless people in the world? Next Saturday, 7th December The World’s Big Sleep Out aims to get over 50,000 people hands-on with homelessness and experience what it is like to sleep on the street. The events aim to unite people together to help fundraise and support those in need. See the link below to see if you can join a sleep out near you.
Helping Santa Deliver Cheer
This Sunday brings the 1st of December, where most families will be putting up their Christmas tree and writing letters to Santa. For some low-income families, this is a very difficult time of year. That’s where you can help! The US Postal Service is giving you access to read letters from Santa’s postroom at the North Pole and answer the ones he can’t. On the website below you can choose to adopt a letter to Santa and post the present anonymously yourself, helping to make a Christmas wish come true.
‘Tis the Season to be Giving
With the aim of teaching children about helping others, Sainsbury's will be opening a 'giving store' next week to collect food and gift donations. The "Giving store" will be located in the heart of Covent Garden, London and is open between Thursday 5th December and Sunday 8th December. This will be a family-friendly experience with interactive donation containers, special characters and a snow-filled forest. In the store customers will use pre-paid tokens to take food and toys from the shelves and donate at the tills. Adults will be asked for a £5 donation to enter the store, which will go to local charities. Children can enter for free.
