Here are three of the stories from across the world that activated our minds and informed our work this week...
A Bloody Great Ad!
BBC Creative has constructed two bloody brilliant billboards in London and Birmingham to lure in passers-by ahead of the release of Dracula. The new show is set to be an unusual take on the original. We dare to say that the ad itself is an unusual take on billboards, as Dracula isn’t actually depicted on the artwork, but he spookily appears as a shadow once it gets dark and the multi-level bloody stakes stabbed into the construction are lit from the side. The extra brilliance is the box that says 'break in case of vampires' and contains a pointed wooden stake, perfect for any member of the public that fancy themselves as a bit of a Buffy the vampire slayer! Every element is a brilliant play on perception and perfectly matches the brand new campaign line, 'Bloody Legend'!
From Vacant to Visionary
Frustrated by the mundane spaces around them, Two MIT graduates decided to take action and launch ‘Space US’ - a company that transforms vacant storefronts and warehouses into inspiring destinations that make local areas feel more authentic. Along with giving artists a place to showcase their work, the duo are helping to craft community bonds - with their initiative providing artists and art lovers alike with a space to connect in their local area and get hands-on with creativity.
The Wellcome collection’s latest exhibition celebrates the transformative power of play and the impact that this can have upon both childhood and society. Divided into three sections, the free exhibition explores the huge impact that play has on us - from our imagination to our physical well being. Participants are even invited to play in the space themselves, with live-action role play inviting visitors to get involved and enhance their social lives.
The Wellcome collection is just a hop, skip and a jump from London Euston, with the Play Well exhibition showing until March 8th - catch it while you can!
